Why "Just Take This Supplement" Never Worked for Me

Have you ever stood in a supplement aisle — or scrolled one — and felt completely lost? Maybe you picked something up, tried it for a few weeks, shrugged, and moved on. I hear this all the time, and honestly, it makes a lot of sense. Taking the right supplement for someone else doesn't mean it's the right supplement for you.

The Problem with Generic Recommendations

Most supplement advice is built on averages. Take vitamin D because most people are deficient. Try magnesium for sleep because stress depletes it. Add fish oil because inflammation. None of that is wrong, exactly — but it skips over the most important part: your body, your history, your actual needs right now.

Someone dealing with persistent fatigue might actually need adrenal support. Someone else with the same complaint might need gut-healing nutrients first, because if the gut isn't absorbing well, nothing else lands the way it should. These are not the same protocol.

What Muscle Testing Reveals

At Healthy Out West, one of the tools I use in building a supplement protocol is Applied Kinesiology — muscle testing. If you're not familiar with it, the idea is that the body itself gives us feedback about what it needs and what it doesn't. It's a fascinating process, and it often surprises people.

When clients come in feeling run down, I'm not handing them a list of popular supplements and sending them home. We work through what's actually going on — what systems may be stressed, what nutrients the body seems to be calling for. The protocol that comes out of that conversation is specific to that person, that day.

What Clients Have Noticed

Some clients come to me exhausted, and over time they describe having more steady energy throughout the day. Others have struggled with digestion for years and notice real shifts after following a personalized nutritional program. A few have been able to reduce their reliance on OTC medications — something that clearly means a lot to them.

I want to be honest: results vary widely, and I'd never promise a specific outcome. What I can say is that when someone's protocol is built around their actual needs, rather than a general wellness trend, they tend to feel more supported in the process. ✦

This Works Remotely, Too

One thing I love about this work is that it's not limited to people who can walk into my Belgrade, MT office. Remote visits are available, which means if you're curious about a personalized supplement protocol but don't live nearby, we can still connect and work through it together.

It's something I built into the practice specifically because so many people — regardless of where they live — deserve access to wellness support that actually looks at them as an individual.

The Question I'd Love to Ask You

Here's what I'm genuinely curious about: have you ever had a supplement actually work for you — something that made you notice a real difference? Or has it mostly been trial and error?

Drop a comment and let me know. I love hearing what people have tried, what helped, and what left them scratching their heads. There's no wrong answer, and you might spark a conversation that helps someone else, too.

Supplement recommendations at Healthy Out West are for general wellness support only and do not constitute medical advice. Consult your healthcare provider before beginning any supplement protocol.
